Sequence Assignment
The assignment this week is to tell a brief story in a sequence of six images. The subject is up to you, and you can control and set up shots as much as you like. The more finely focused your story, the easier it will be to convey it visually. You’ll also want to choose a story that lends itself well to being interpreted visually.

Self Critique
This assignment reminds me of how I typically shoot photos during weekend events and vacations. Since I have a blog, I definitely use my photos, more so than words, to explain events and tell stories. No one likes to go to a blog and look at a block of text. It doesn’t matter how big of a reader you are, you don’t do this for fun. Thus for this assignment, I was really inspired. Since my roommate was Alice from Alice in Wonderland for Halloween, and since I wanted to use her in the assignment (largely to prove that she is photogenic), I decided to recreate the scene of Alice shrinking and growing huge. I managed to get my roommate to agree to a break from homework (physics kills) and we shot the assignment over by Spider House. I think so far, this has definitely been my favorite assignment, because I could be creative, but not have to stress about technique the entire time. That’s not to say I didn’t incorporate depth of field, vantage point, and proximity in my photo. The only real difficulty in this assignment was narrowing down the images. Whoops.

Portraiture

In portraiture, there are various types of lighting. The aim of this assignment was to learn to look for and capture distinct shapes of light and shadow on the face.

Self Critique:
I really enjoyed learning about the different types of portrait lighting and started noticing the various techniques in everyday photographs. As I walked around campus, I took note of the light on the faces of strangers on my way to class. It was cool then, to return to my apartment, and use my desk lamp to create shadows on the faces of my roommates and friends. I waited a bit last minute and like every week, I wish I had started earlier because the assignment proved more enjoyable than chorelike. Shocking I know. My favorite type of lighting was the hatchet lighting because of the drama created in the photo. Also, I shot majority in black and white because it can be a bit more forgiving for portraits (and per request of my friends.)

Should've used these photos:

I have some lovely friends who live in a house not far off campus. They call themselves WOG...Women of God. Anyways, a few weeks ago, they asked if I would take "family photos" for them. I was more than happy to oblige. Kagney (yes that's a real name) picked me up and drove me to her house as I silently questioned her wardrobe selection (plaid shirt, jeans, and artificial beer belly.)

When I arrived at WOG, everyone present was dressed in outfits that "represented their role in the household." I should've turned these portraits in for my assignment, but alas, I forgot that I had these precious gems on my laptop. Well world, here they are. The ladies of WOG.
